Who helps Real Salt Lake pick up results? (and Matias Mantilla news)
First off, if you haven't heard, Matias Mantilla sounds to be pretty much done with RSL. Eric Salsbery (Deuce) reports this.
Next, we're off to my wonderful fascination with statistics. This time I decided to look at the team as a whole as compared to my fixation on a single player.
Jamison Olave - Defensive Bully
Jamison Olave is quickly replacing RSL fans' memories of Pope with bragging rights. We have only allowed 2 goals (including 1 own goal) in the last 8 league games. All of these games featured a 90-minute bully known as Olave. What better way to show how different the team is with him on the pitch, then showing you some stats from league games.
Espindola: One player can make a difference
I think Espindola is the missing link in Real Salt Lake's attack during this scoring drought - 2 goals since the start of June in league play (3rd goal was an own goal). The last game Espindola played was May 31st. He has 3 goals in 490 minutes (1 goal every 163 minutes), which is a better pace than FC Dallas' Kenny Cooper (8 goals in 1427 minutes - 1 goal every 178 minutes). With 8 games played and 8 games missed for Espindola, here are a couple team stats that show the difference as well.
Team Goals / Game
Espindola played: 1.75
Espindola DNP: 0.50
Points / Game
Remember kids: Stats are fun
Lets see if I can get this blogging back on track.
So, I thought I would show you how RSL is ranking in the league as we have hit the center mark of our season with 3 months gone by. All stats are Per Game, because not all teams have played the same amount of games (hover over ties to see the team we are tied with):
Real Salt Lake's First Team
According to the ratings up to date, this is our best rated first team and 7 subs.
---------------Seitz---------------- -Beltran---Olave--Borchers--Wingert- --------------Sturgis--------------- ----Beckerman---------Williams------ --------------Morales--------------- -----------Nunez---Espindola--------
Bench: Rimando, Mantilla, Kirby, Cutler, Cordoba, Kovalenko, Deuchar
Notes:
- Seitz and Nunez have only played one game (US Open Cup Play-in), however they both got good ratings to earn their spot.
